Details
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time to honour residential school survivors, their families, and to remember the children who never returned home. It’s also a time to recognize the atrocities and multi-generational effects of the residential school system.
Together with Humber Polytechnic’s Indigenous Education & Engagement department, our community will gather, rain or shine, and walk in honour. The walk serves as a reminder for the responsibility we carry to raise awareness and continue toward healing and rebuilding the nation’s relationship with Indigenous Peoples.
Here’s what you can expect:
-
10 a.m. — Opening and introduction at the IGNITE Backyard, North Campus
-
10:15 a.m. — 1.5 kilometre walk through the Medicine Garden
-
10:45 am to 11:30 a.m. — Refreshments and community gathering in the IGNITE Backyard, North Campus
If you’re a student, you will receive a beaded pin from us, while supplies last. We encourage you to wear an orange shirt if you have one, and don’t forget proper footwear!
This event will be rain or shine. In case of rain, opening and closing gatherings will be moved to the Student Centre and ponchos will be provided for the walk.
Register today and let’s walk the path forward, together.
